Thrifty shopping!!!

Today I decided to share some of my thrifty shopping this past week and since we just finished building my budget is almost nothing! Still I must confess I've always loved thrifty shopping it excites me to find something I love and not pay full price!!!

This clearance find is for my daughters room and because the glass was broken I got it for $9 at Hobby Lobby!
I needed some lamps and what I could find was so expensive so I stopped by a thrift store in town and found these for $5! I just need to find some thrifty shades now!
This mirror I found in another thrift store in town and let me say he was very proud of his prices, but I just kept checking back with him until he finally came down! He wanted $40 to begin and I got it for $15, it's very heavy and has it's original mirror. I needed it for our powder room so it will be painted either glossy white or silver.
This mirror will be for my master bedroom and I got it at Hobby Lobby it was marked down from $99 to $20 and the girl  gave me another 10% off! I'm not sure about the color though!

This find was from Hobby Lobby clearance aisle, it's original price was $59 marked down to $12,  but I got it for $9 and I'm a happy camper because I always wanted one of these for a fireplace mantle and now I have two mantles to decorate!
I'm thinking of giving it a color wash in a cream  or gray, what do you think? See those cabinets they have to primed and painted to go on either side of my fireplace, I'll post pics when there done!

Well that's it for today I'm off to do some painting!!!

The Master not yet Mastered!!!

Today over at Kelly's Korner it's show your Master bedroom so here it is, but beware it's not complete!
The master of course it's not yet done, the doors still have to be painted and knobs need to be put on! The door on the right goes to the bathroom and on the left goes to the living room.
I'm tired of the big bulky armoire so it will probably be sold in the big garage sale I'm gearing up for. I really want a dresser to fill that wall that is not too deep and maybe paint it a soft gray.
We still just have temporary window coverings so today I am going shopping to see if I can find anything to fit these windows that I like. I'm thinking of doing some stencil painting on some drop cloths, but for inside the window I'm undecided right now.
The ceiling was lots of work, but I love it!
My side of the bed, I'm on the hunt for new lamps for both our nightstands.
My husband's side of the bed, did you notice I get the remote!
The doorknobs I choose and got them on clearance!...yes I know my hubs only put two of the screws in so far!
We haven't hung anything on the walls just yet, but I going to either hang a large initial wood cutout or the three canvases I ordered from the beach photos I took.

Well that's it hope you enjoy looking around!!!!

My new kitchen in progress!!!

So today is show your kitchen over on Kelly's Korner so here we go with my new kitchen. We just moved in and still have a few things for the builder to do.
I love the contrast between the beams and ceiling.
I know my cabinet maker thought I was crazy when I gave him the drawing of how I wanted my custom hood made, but now he sees my vision!
Awe my farmhouse sink, I dreamed of bathing my babies in one of these for so long unfortunately I don't think we will have anymore babies.
You can see the desk area off to the right in this shot and the door to the screen porch which has my husbands man kitchen.
This shot is from the breakfast area and I am still hunting for the perfect stools. I just noticed you can also see the mop by the coffee bar. This mom of two boys has to mop on a daily basis so I never quite make it to the laundry room to put it up!

This chandelier was the first purchase that I made and it was on clearance! Also in this shot is our temporary curtains to block the afternoon sun while eating supper. We are shopping for bamboo shades for this area.
The breakfast area looking from the island and yes only one set of windows has curtains for now! These country french chairs are unfinished right now because after all the decisions on this house I can't seem to decide if I want to stain or paint these!
This all fridge/all freezer was a big want for us because my husband is big hunter and we always have lots of deer meat to store so no more walking to the shop for meat! I also should say I got an awesome deal on it because of a tiny dent that no one ever notices! The display area above has the tongue and groove because we wanted to use up all we had left and I choose to stain it for a different look.
This is my husband's coffee bar, but I get to clean it of course!
I really wanted the herringbone back splash, but it's not as visible as I hoped.
This piece is not finished it's supposed to look like a china cabinet, but the doors are not done yet. The hallway to the right leads to the garage, laundry, mudroom, powder room and pantry is right around the corner ( that open door).

So there is our kitchen hope you enjoy looking around!!!

My living room still under construction!

I haven't blogged in a long while, but I thought I would join in on Kelly's home tour today.
This pic is looking from my front entry. Don't you just love those temporary curtains? I am trying to find some bamboo roman shades, but not having any luck with the length of these windows a whopping 84 inches! The wall with the two transom doorways leads to the kitchen and is still  not painted due to the builder shooting a nail through the water pipes and the flooring and wall had to be repaired!!...yes that was a nightmare that still hasn't ended!
This wall is what you see looking in from the kitchen and of course the only thing on the wall right now is the beloved deer heads and by that I mean they are only beloved by my husband!!! Of course we are still waiting for our builder to come install our mantle and the two custom cabinets I designed that will go on either side of the fireplace.
The doorway on this wall leads to our master bedroom and bathroom.
This shot is looking from the massive windows to our front entry. You can also see the pocket doors and moldings that have not been painted yet. These doors lead to our dining room that at the moment is holding all the unpacked boxes.
For this wall I'm looking for two big comfy chairs, I've always wanted some with a tufted back.
Oh yeah I forgot we still don't have our hearth stone yet either as you can clearly see in this picture. So there you have it and it still has lots of finishing touches left to do. I'm looking forward to finding some great deals to decorate and furnish this huge new home that God has blessed us with!

HOME SWEET HOME ALMOST!!!

I thought I would stop in today and update where were at with the Dream House. It was supposed to be done at the four month mark, but that has now come and gone and the five month mark is quickly approaching!!! I so hope we are in for the end of February like the contractor claims!!!
Well here goes some pics from my iphone so they are not so great. This is the pantry and after living in this trailor for the past four years while waiting to build I am really itching to use all this glorious space! I'm planning to jazz this space up as soon as I can catch my breath from all the decisions and finish work that I'm trying to do myself! This room is the laundry room and no it's not finished. The box in the corner is a laundry shoot for my daughter from her upstairs bathroom. The opening under the counter is a laundry shoot for my boys and I also want them to build me some sort of wall unit for wrapping paper and ribbons. In case your wondering the wall color for these two rooms is Watery by Sherwin Williams.

This is my front porch ceiling and I love how it turned out we also did this on our back porch and I stained and sealed all these boards and beleive me there is a whole lot of them!!! It's called tongue and groove pine and I used dark walnut stain by Minwax.

Not much else going on they are moving at a very slow pace now that they are on the finishing work and my cabinet maker stood me up today we were supposed to lay out my kitchen cabinets! I think this weekend I will go buy most of my lighting so I can have my electrician get started next week and of course I have some more staining to do. If the weather holds up I will have them deliver my wood entry doors so I can start staining those as well. Oh how I have wanted to see my beautiful doors that have been sitting in will call at my local lumber yard for over a month now!!

More to come stay tuned!

Our Dream Home

I really wanted to keep up with bogging all along the way of building, but of course life got really crazy with me thinking I could self contract and do my own painting and staining and still keep my house clean and in order and tend to my 3 kids!!!! What was I thinking I was wonder woman or something?

Well anyway finally our dream is home is coming to life!!! That window above the garage is my daughters room, yes she's a lucky 14 year old she has the upstairs all to herself. We still have some painting touch ups and the brackets are still not installed in the gables also a window box will be built to go under her window.

This is the back porch and that framing is for a wood burning fireplace wrapped in stone. I'm going to enjoy the outdoors during the winter with that baby! The ceiling will be finished with stained tongue and groove pine boards that were stained by moi!! Now that was some work staining all those boards and sealing them one by one!!! whew that wore me out!

The sheetrock went in this week, this view is from the living facing the dining room and foyer. This ceiling will have painted tongue and groove pine boards and yes everyone is giving me a hard time and saying I need to stain but thats just not what I want!! The beams that sit on top of the tongue and groove will be stained and stone on the face of the fireplace. The floors are still a debate between me and the hubs!

The front porch oh how I love thee!!! The carpenters still have to build the posts and stone will be put where the white wrap is now and of course my beautiful front door is still not stained or installed.

This is where we at today! The eyebrow windows will have cedar stained shutters installed under them over the white paper wrap.

I have still have so many decisions to make and I'm trying hard to find the best deals to make my monies stretch as far as a possible. I'm now on the hunt for door knobs, lighting fixtures and garage doors!! Wish me luck!!!

THE DAY HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!!!!

These pieces of paper are so beautiful to me because they mean I can finally get a permit to start building our dream home!!! yay!!! The plans had to be drawn all over because the first set was just not up to code and so many other obstacles along the way, but today a load of materials were dropped off and tommorrow morning the fun begins!
